The month of February: the month of Australia or Down Under as some people call it. And I really have to start with one of my favourite illustrators. Shaun Tan (b. 1974). I know he is famous and won the Astrid Lindgren Award but I could not start a month on Australian artists without him.
Tan's work shows a lot of detail, not symbols but details allowing the reader his own personal interpretation. For example he shows a walking tadpole of which he states "illustrating something about acceptance and belonging but I cannot exactly say what". And what about the diving mask in a bottle?
